GUERRINI
(Universal / Serenelli) Cassotto Accordion
Sound samples included - see below for the

Dear
Accordion Friends,
Here is
an interesting reborn accordion. It was built in Italy by Serenelli (not
to be confused with Serenellini) and sold in the USA under the brand
Universal. The accordion features the best hand-made double riveted
Catraro reeds you can find, beautifully aged mahogany body, and a
double tone chamber. It is truly a delight to play. It will remind you
of Titano Royal, Giulietti Super, or even Hohner Gola.
About
two years ago a friend of mine who collected high end accordions sent
the instrument to an accordion factory for complete restoration:
- The reeds were re-waxed
- The accordion was buffed and looks
great
- The Guerrini grill and treble
switches are new
- New bellows tape
- New bass strap
There
are two reasons many people would think this particular instrument was
originally built by Guerrini. Guerrini did make accordions sold in the
USA under the Universal brand. In addition, the design of the reed
blocks with the two woods pattern on the top of the blocks is typical
for Guerrini. However, Serenelli, Titano, and Scandalli used similar
reed blocks in the 1950-60s. The shape of the bass body, the design of
the tone chamber and the overall interior geometry, as well as the type
of reeds all point toward Serenelli being the original manufacturer of
this accordion. Srenelli made fabulous accordions and was the first
company to make Giulietti.
While
this is not a Guerrini accordion it sure looks beautiful with the new
"face" and has the perfect tonal character and tuning to match its new
name. The
treble switches were properly selected to match the Guerrini President
reed combinations. I have personally voiced and tuned this
accordion in April 2021 and can promise you a fabulous response and
tonal richness to impress. I also serviced the keyboard and optimized
key travel and action. The compression is like on a new instrument.
Added new Italian shoulder straps.
- Made in Italy most likely by Serenelli in the late 1950s, a true
"Golden Age of the Accordion" gem
- Spectacular hand made double-riveted
Cartaro reeds with genuine leather valves
- 4 sets of treble reeds LM1M2H
- Concert tuned with a the few cents
Balkan "secret" tuning to make the Violin switch sing, also enhancing
the Accordion, Musette, and Master switches. There is no tremolo, you
can't count beats but will certainly know the sound is special. You've
heard it on the best Sonola and Excelsior accordions as well. Not easy
to implement but fabulous to experience.
- DOUBLE
TONE CHAMBER (CASSOTTO) - Bassoon (L) and Clarinet (M1)
- 41 keys, 19.25 " keyboard
- serviced at the Accordion Gallery, smooth fast action
- 11 treble switches - Bassoon, Accordion, Bandoneon,
Harmonium, Organ, Musette, Violin, Oboe, Sopran, Clarinet, and Piccolo
- Palm Master switch (LMMH) - doesn't repeat above the keyboard,
therefore 12 different treble sounds
- 5 sets of bass reeds
- 120 bass - very smooth and silent action
- 5 bass registers
- Deep-fold bellows - plenty of volume - clean - excellent compression
- New Italian shoulder straps, leather with Velour padding
- New bass strap
- Hard-shell case with internal padding
- 26 lb - very ergonomic and
efficient accordion
- Offered with the Accordion Gallery full
year warranty
