Spectacular SONOLA SS6 Accordion
I love
Sonola accordions in each class. They have consistent high quality, very
responsive reeds, robust mechanics, and memorable tone. The SS6 is the
3-reed double chamber version of the flagship SS20 model. It has been
the choice of jazz musicians who prefer a lighter weight accordion than
the SS20 with the same tonal character. This instrument is part of the
famous Sonola Symphony Hall Series and features fantastic hand-made
reeds, Sonola's proprietary "resovox" oversized tone chamber, body
carved of specially selected aged woods, and full size professional
keyboard. The tone is mellow yet powerful and rich in overtones.
Playing and listening to the sound of this accordion is a treat for the
performer and the audience.
The
hardware is clean with no rust. The overall cosmetic condition is very
good. The excellent compression combined with the air efficient
reeds and perfect balance allows for a very dynamic and expressive
performance. The instrument has been serviced at the Accordion
Gallery and is ready to impress its new owner.

accordions, among them the 1960's Scandalli Super VI and 1970-80's
Guerrini Superior 2. You've got to play this accordion! Offered with
one year warranty. Call 973-770-6877 with any questions.
See you at the Accordion Gallery...
The keyboard is one
of the best you can dream for - excellent action, luxury round key
tops, level and responsive.
The potentiometers and
1/4" pick up on the grill are not connected. The microphones have been
removed at some time.
The picture below shows the inner side
of the grill with the attached/removable tone modulator.
The large
crystalline type microphones have been removed along with the cables
clutter and heavy potentiometers.
The volume knobs
were kept to preserve the original appearance of the grill.
If you like
amplification I recommend installing condenser microphones.
In that case the
holes for the original volume knobs could be used for the new
potentiometers.
The interior of the
accordion is as impressive as its tonal character.
All valves are like new. The keyboard
may be the best you've played.
The bass machine is
clean. All metal parts have been anodized and will not corrode.
The interior is nicely
varnished and very clean. The sound boards are made of brass for
enhanced resonance.
You can see the
extended space under the keyboard, one of the many secrets to the Sonola
SS series tonal
volume and richness.
The 1960's Sonola catalogs referred to this feature as "Resovox
Chamber".
The tone chamber and
the body of the accordion are made of mahogany.
The bassoon and
clarinet sounds of thisaccordion could be compared to the 1960 Scandalli
Super VI and
Settimio Soparni
Artist VI. The tone is deep and warm, yet powerful.
I can say with
confidence that you will not be able to find this mature rich and smooth
timbre in any new accordion.
It takes the best
reeds and craftsmanship and years of aging and playing the accordion
to obtain this harmonic richness.
These are some of the
very best hand-made reeds anyone can dream of!
They
never been abused by power tools and are beautifully voiced and tuned...
